Suzanne Collins revealed the fifth book in the “Hunger Games” series called “Sunrise on the Reaping” on Thursday. It’s set to come out next year.
Later that day, Adam Fogelson, who is in charge of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, announced that they will be making a movie based on the new book. They plan to release it in theaters on November 20, 2026.
The filmmaker Francis Lawrence, who directed four movies in the series before, is likely going to direct this new movie too. The project will be produced by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson’s Color Force production company
The “Hunger Games” series, which talks about survival, oppression, fighting back, and the impact of having power, began with Suzanne Collins’ first book “The Hunger Games.” After that came the sequels “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay.”
Lionsgate made a series of movies starting with “The Hunger Games” in 2012, starring Jennifer Lawrence. This was followed by three sequels: “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
The story takes place in a fictional place called Panem, which is divided into the wealthy Capitol and 13 poor districts. Each year, children from these districts are chosen by lottery to fight to the death in a televised event called The Hunger Games
Suzanne Collins wrote a prequel to the original trilogy called “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” in 2020. Lionsgate made a movie based on this book in 2023, starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler in the main roles.
Sunrise on the Reaping” will take us back to the world of Panem, 24 years before the story of “The Hunger Games” begins. It will focus on the events leading up to the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
