India-Nepal Chaos – Dead body found of Nepali student at KIIT.

Mumbai, Pakriti Lamsan, a 20-year-old Nepali girl, was found dead in her hostel room in Odisha’s Kalinga Institution of Industrial Technology ( KIIT) at Bhubaneswar, West Bengal. It set off a storm of allegations and arrests. Prakriti Lamsan is a second-year Computer Science student at KIIT. Police registered it as a suicide case. The dead body of Prakriti Lamsan flew to Nepal on 17th Feb 2025.

Who is Pakriti Lamsan?
Pakriti Lamsan is second year Computer Science student (B. Tech) at KIIT, Odisha. She is a 20-year-old Nepali girl staying in Bhubaneswar for her further studies. Police found her dead body on Sunday from her hostel room in Bhubaneswar.

India-Nepal Chaos: Kalinga Institution of Industrial Technology (KIIT) celebrates its three-day college fest, on that day a dead college student was found in her hostel room on Sunday college premises. Sometimes, this incident led to the embassy level talks between the two countries India-Nepal. The death of the Nepali student Prakriti Lamsan reason for the India-Nepal chaos set off a storm of arrests, allegations, and diplomatic unease among the university students. The Bhubaneswar Police registered the incident as a suicide case. The students from Nepal demanded a formal inquiry from the Indian government and the University. As per reports, Pakriti Lamsan was abused both physically and verbally by Advik Shrivastava. He is a 21-year 21-year-old boy who is a B. Tech (Mechanical) student at the same university. The police found an audio file from the incident area from that evidence it is clear that Pakriti Lamsan was abused by the boy, as they address each other as Advik and Pakriti.
Advik Shrivastava’s residence in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh was arrested from Bhubaneswar’s airport on Monday, in charge of incitement suicide.
After postmortem Pakriti’s body was handed over to her family and the body will be flown today to Nepal. In an interview, Pakriti’s father said, “I had sent my daughter for higher studies, it is not fare what happened with her, I trusted that she’ll be safe in the university”.

Students protest
Students protest: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and MP Achyuta Samanta support KIIT instead of the Nepali students. On social media, the video was circulated where it is shown that college students are physically assaulted. The protest continued overnight and then two days after the exam all the Nepali students were told to leave the university. The University decided that the college is closed to all international Nepali students. As per the student’s statement, the KIIT University didn’t say anything to them, they just told them to leave the university.

Legal Actions
Legal Actions: Including Advik, Police arrested six more who are connected with the student’s death. Among them, three are HR Sibananda Mishra, Director (Administration) Pratap Kumar Chamupaty, and Director of Hostels Sudhir Kumar Rath. Two security guards are also arrested.
