The coach of team Delhi Capitals, Ricky reveals how he was planning to get the star “Rishabh Pant” back into the game in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Rishabh Pant strives to return from a dangerous accident in December 2022 and is about to make his comeback to his professional career, cricket. The batter as well as the wicketkeeper has stepped up Rishabh Pant’s recovery by coming into view in a series of cricket match practice sessions along with India teammate Hardik Pandya at the National Cricket Academy.
While talking to Sanjana Ganesan on the most recent episode of the ICC review, said he was looking forward to Rishabh Pant captaining the side from the beginning of the tournament but his fitness should allow it.
Ponting said through quoted by the ICC website:-
“It’s a huge step we have to take due to his fitness, you would think he can step straight to the captaincy. If Rishabh is not completely fit and well then we have to use him in another role, so we have got some more decisions to make”. Ponting also added Rishabh Pant had been doing mountain work to try to get back to the cricketing scene and the recent hitouts and NCA so should have kept Rishabh in the best position for Delhi’s opening cricket match of the IPL vs Punjab Kings on March 23, in the Mohali. “Rishabh had played some practice matches the last couple of weeks, which encouraged us. I know he has worked incredibly hard on his body and fitness after the accident to get back to the level that he is right now. He has kept in one of those games, his field in these games.
We all were worried about Rishabh’s pants and that he might not have made it possible this time for IPL. He was a big loss for our previous year and also what he went through, we cannot even explain what he has gone through in the last 14 months. I’m so hopeful, I’m not being selfish as I’m a coach of the team Delhi Capitals, but I genuinely want to see him returning to the game and back to playing cricket. I think the entire world wants to see him back in the game playing on the field. I’m very hopeful, not from a selfish point of view as the coach of the Delhi Capitals, but I want to see him back playing cricket again. I’ll be guiding him to play out the way he used to play and I think he does that, I think he’ll play the game which he lost and will come back to him in some time.
